All Nurses Disappear: The Devastating Effects on Healthcare and Beyond

Picture this: a world without nurses. No more nursing care, no more healing, no more nursing career. Parang eksena sa sci-fi movie, 'no?

When supply can’t meet demand, people suffer.

Shortages of Healthcare Professionals

It will be utter chaos inside hospitals kasi the systems in place are paralyzed and will have to be restarted again.

Economic Downturn

Imagine 100,000 families suddenly not being able to pay rent or pay for basic utilities? Grabe yan.

Geopolitical Implications

Nursing schools especially here in the Philippines will have to produce more nurses in half the time, just to meet demand. But countries will not easily release nurses to other countries as it seeks to secure its own demand issues locally. According to Dr. Maria Vergeire of the Department of Health, the Philippines currently has a shortage of 350,000 nurses. But we can’t blame nurses for working overseas. It’s not their fault. 😤

Psychological Impact on Patients

They say na you will only see the importance of something when it’s gone. And not having nurses to provide that emotional support when you need it will affect how patient satisfaction levels in healthcare facilities all over the world. So be understanding and appreciative of the nurses that attend to you when you need them.

Insurance Industry Disruption

Changes in F&B Industry

Kapag walang nurse and bumababa ang kalidad ng healthcare sa ospital, kakailanganin ng mga food & beverage company to make healthier food alternatives just to help people get healthier. Also, sila (F&B industry) ang responsible sa pagbibigay ng proper nutrition sa pasyente, kaya magkakaroon ng changes sa buong food and beverage industry.

Disruption in Supply Chain of Healthcare Products

Increased Demand for Home Health Care

Roughly 1.5 million) people live in nursing homes in America. And around 0.21% (1 million) of elderly adults live in assisted living facilities in the U.S. There are 15,600 nursing homes in America and lahat po yan, mangangailangan ng nurses.

Long-Term Effects on Healthcare

For sure it will take many months or even years to fix or undo the damage that this will create. It’s a scary thought. Maybe even scarier than the pandemic because it will cause a long term global systemic failure. Nakakatakot siya isipin. And while this is only a hypothetical scenario, it teaches us the value that nurses and healthcare professionals bring to the global healthcare industry.

Let's take the time to recognize and celebrate the dedication and hard work of nurses, by expressing our gratitude for their invaluable contributions to our lives and well-being because it’s the right thing to do. ❤️🙏👩🏻‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️
